WE ARE CANCELING THE POTLUCK! We've found it in the depths of our cockles to pull together enough food for all of our lovely guests and have decided to abandon the stress of trying to organize this potluck into some sort of sensible meal.

The rehearsal dinner for the wedding party will be the evening before, on Friday the 21st, at 5pm, at the church.

What to do in Ashland, Oregon

We live in a very small, beautiful, and interesting mountain town. We are a tiny liberal bastion of the arts, political activism, and crazy anti-vaccine people, stuck in the midst of the fantastic farm, ranch, vineyard, and timber country of Southern Oregon.

We are a pretty serious tourist town. People come here for a couple of things but the main huge and crazy draw is the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which has been going for almost 80 years and runs from February to November each year. The quality is absolutely top notch and you are not to come to Ashland without going to see at least one play. Tickets are as low as $25 (and the seats are fine, really.)

It will be quite early in Shakespeare season while you are here visiting and it looks like only 3 plays will be running already. You can check it out and purchase tickets here:

The other big thing is skiing. Mount Ashland has some pretty decent skiing for being a little under 20 minutes from our front door. If that's your thing, you can get info here:

Besides that, it's an adorable town, and a foodie town, so sitting by the creek or on the plaza eating great grub is a great way to spend your days. We have amazing hiking right in the middle of town at Lithia Park. Or you can be brave and go raft the wild and scenic Rogue River (where they filmed the River Wild.)

Accommodations

Here are some good and quite different places. They are all very close to the ceremony venue and right in downtown. The reception venue is a bit of a walk from there, but a quick drive and super easy.

The first place here is the luxurious and historic large hotel that is a centerpiece of Ashland and where all manner of fine events happen. This is where we will likely be staying that night.

The second is a fantastic youth hostel, very affordable, with shared rooms. The third is a Best Western.

Another option that is a fantastic thing is that Ashland has vacation rentals galore. This is a tiny town (pop. 20,000) with a HUGE tourist population. This will be just barely before the big season starts, so houses should be available to rent all over town, and be even more affordable than hotels when shared by 4-12 people.
